A POEM FOR LITTLE PEOPLE

Dir. Ivan Sautkin | 2023 | 83 min | Babylon’13 (Ukraine), Zero Copy (Lithuania), Autofiction Film, Roast Beef Production (UK) | 7+

A cinematographic poem about resistance and courage, that in war time can take various forms. Anton, together with like-minded peers, volunteers to evacuate civilians from war zones in Eastern Ukraine. Though explosions can be heard in the background, it often takes a lot of effort to convince people to head to a safer place. During the occupation of the Chernihiv region, two pensioner friends decide to stay in their own homes. Pragmatic Zinaida and dreamy Taisia each find their own silent ways of resistance. Zinaida delivers information to the Ukrainian army about Russian military transport movements, which she secretly observes from her apartment window, while Taisia writes manipulative poems to the occupying Russian soldiers. Be it poem, prayers or keeping safe memorial plaques – each form of resistance has significance.
